Principal’s Message:

Dear Golden Owls,

Each year, elementary schools create a School Plan for Student Achievement that guides the work for our school for the coming year. In the fall, elected parent representatives from the Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary School, School Site Council, and English Language Advisory Committee work with me and school staff members to create a draft that is reviewed and approved by the MVWSD Board of Trustees.  This plan helps us prioritize programs and strategies that will best serve our students. It lays out each school’s plan for achieving its goals, and connects with the District's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which lays out goals for the entire district.

To learn more about the overarching goals and efforts that will be included in this year’s Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary School School Plan for Student Achievement, please:

  1. Join me for a Principal’s Coffee on September 27 at 8:10AM
  2. Read more in our school newsletters as I highlight these plans
  3. Join one of our PTA, SSC, or ELAC meetings.

If you would like to get involved, please contact me or attend the next joint ELAC and School Site Council (SSC) meeting on September 25 at 5PM in the MUR.

Thank you for your help and support.

Mr. Taylor

We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged.  Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time.   Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick
  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
  • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up.  Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

Cafecito coming up

For Spanish-speaking parents of MVWSD students - Join Superintendent Dr. Ayindé Rudolph for casual conversation on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Graham Middle School staff room. Bring your questions and comments. Interpretation will be available.

The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series presents: "The Orchid and the Dandelion:  Why Some Children Struggle and How All Can Thrive" with W. Thomas Boyce, M.D. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 - 7:00 - 9:00pm | MVHS Spartan Theatre | 3535 Truman Ave, Mountain View, CA.

Developmental pediatrician, Dr. Thomas Boyce, will delve into results from four decades of research and clinical practice – exploring his major discovery that reveals how both genetic make-up and environment shape behavior.

Dr. Boyce will explore how the “dandelion” child (hearty, resilient, healthy) is able to survive and flourish under most circumstances and the “orchid” child (sensitive, susceptible, fragile) when given the right support, can thrive as much as, if not more, than other children. Dr. Boyce will share how we as parents can better nurture and support the unique characteristics of both types of children.

MVEF news

Thanks to parents in our community we are on our way to raising $800,000 to fund programming across the district. Elementary students are enjoying hands-on science, standards-based art and music instruction, 4th and 5th-grade environmental science field trips, and more. Middle schools receive funding for afterschool athletics, science materials, electives and an environmental science field trip for every 6th-grade student. MVEF cannot do this without your help! Donate today at mvef.org.
