Wise Word, 5/4/22

Principal’s Message:

Hello Golden Owls,

Staff Appreciation Week began this week. We are very fortunate to have wonderful teachers and staff that make Vargas a great place for our students. Our staff has been working tirelessly this year to support our students and help them progress this school year. Please join me and giving a big thank you to our staff. If you haven’t already, I’m sure our staff would greatly appreciate a brief message of encouragement, support, or thanks!

May marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories of Americans hailing from across the Asian continent and from the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. This month, our teachers will be emphasizing the diversity and richness of AAPI identity and culture. Additionally, Ms. O, our librarian, will be sharing books about various influential AAPI individuals and their contributions. Additionally, students can use Clever through their Chromebooks to access the AAPI Picture Book Collection. (Click here)

Congratulations to our Reclassified students
Last Thursday, MVWSD celebrated our students who have successfully reclassified as English Proficient this school year!. We were proud of our 10 students. Please join me in celebrating Chelsea, Miles, Narek, Brandon, Phillip, Malika, Peyton, Peter, Noam, and Lance on their reclassification this year!. We are all so proud of you!

Composting

Last week, our Golden Owls started composting on campus. Students will be sorting their waste into liquids, recyclables, compost, and trash.  As students are sorting, they are learning how to tell the difference between what can be reused, and what has to go to the landfill. As part of the program, we have over 50 Golden Owls volunteering to be part  of our Supreme Green Team. During recess, these students volunteer to help other students sort their waste correctly. Thank you to our wonderful students who are making Vargas and the world a better place.

Science Night

We are currently planning a Science Night for Thursday, May 26th from 5:30-6:30 pm. Students and families that attend will receive and build a Kiwi Kit together. Please complete the survey by 5/20 and select either the Science Night for your family OR at home option.
