The Wise Word 05/10/2023

Hello Golden Owls,

Staff Appreciation Week began this week. We are very fortunate to have wonderful teachers and staff that make Vargas a great place for our students. Our staff has been working tirelessly this year to support our students and help them progress this school year. Please join me and give a big thank you to our staff. If you haven’t already, I’m sure our staff would greatly appreciate a brief message of encouragement, support, or thanks!

It's time for our Annual celebration of former English Learner students who have successfully reclassified as English Proficient this school year! We are extremely proud of all the students as well as all the families, teachers, and school staff who have supported them along the way. Families of newly reclassified students should have received email invitations and formal paper invitations last week to the event to take place at Crittenden the evening of May 11, 2023. If you have any questions, or believe you should have received an invitation but didn't, please contact your child's school or Leticia Corcoran at [email protected] or (650) 526-3500 x1121. Congratulations!

Library - Time to return Books

Another year is coming to a close. I want to thank all the Golden Owl families for your help to make it a great year in the library by buying or donating books.

It is also time for me to collect all the library books and/or fees due to our school.

We will have a little competition among each grade the week of May 15th to 19th: the first class for each grade level that returns ALL library books and fees by May 19th, will earn extra recess time.

ON YOUR MARK….SET….GO!

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories of Americans hailing from across the Asian continent and from the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. This month, our teachers will be emphasizing the diversity and richness of AAPI identity and culture. Additionally, Ms. O, our librarian, will be sharing books about various influential AAPI individuals and their contributions. Additionally, students can use Clever through their Chromebooks to access the AAPI Picture Book Collection. (Click here)

5th Grade CSMA Music Concert (5/17/2023)

Our fifth grade students are excited to perform for you!  As a culmination of their weekly music lessons provided by Community School of Music and Art (CSMA), students who are in the music program will hold their concert in the MUR on May 17 at 11:00 am.

**Please plan ahead!

In order to view these performances, visitors will need to sign in the office with their picture IDs. The concert will begin promptly at 11:00, so please make sure to give yourself plenty of time to find parking, and sign-in. We suggest arriving at least 15 minutes before the start of the concert to ensure you can view your child’s full performance.
