PTA News

We’re off to a flying start! Help us launch the school on Dedication Day (August 15,

4:30pm) by signing up on our Sign-Up page.

And help the teachers and staff move in on Move-In Day (August 17, 10:00am -5:00pm) by signing up for a shift here .

Let’s be OWL that we can be!

It’s simple!

Join the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The partnership between parents and teachers creates a strong learning community. Self-esteem grows. Grades improve. Test scores climb. Your membership also gives you a voice and a vote in deciding how we direct our efforts and our funds. Your attendance is encouraged (but not mandatory!) at the general meetings, where enrichment programs, budgets, and school events are discussed.

By joining the Vargas PTA, you partner with the teachers, principal, and staff to foster a love of life-long learning. You help create a community where families feel valued, respected, and known. You become part of the California State PTA and National PTA, the most powerful children’s advocacy organizations in the country.

Most importantly, by joining the Vargas PTA, you’re helping the Vargas community be all that it can be!

Monetary donations make a difference!

The PTA depends on donations in order to provide curriculum support, STEAM special events, and beloved programs like Project Cornerstone and Imagineerz.

These programs and events, often requested by teachers, enrich the curriculum being taught in class, give students an opportunity to apply classroom lessons to the real world, and offer new challenges to develop divergent thinking skills.

This year, a donation of $250 per student would help us bring these innovative programs to Vargas. Please consider adding a tax-deductible donation to your membership! Donate what you can; every dollar helps! Donations minimize the need for additional fundraising throughout the year. PTA Membership benefits include discounts to Legoland, the California Academy of Sciences, Aquarium of the Pacific, Lenovo, AARP, and more. For more information on PTA member benefits, visit https://capta.org/join/member-perks/ . You can join and donate at the Membership Table at Dedication Day and during the first week of school. You can join and donate throughout the year by contacting any member of the PTA Executive Board.

Questions? Email Imelda Chin at membership@javargaspta.org.

School Supplies:

This year, we’re using yubbler.com to provide a one-stop online shop for school supplies. The grade-specific lists were created by the teachers. Yubbler will give 50% of the profits to the school! If you prefer not to shop online, the Yubbler lists can be used for reference. Please bring the supplies to your classroom on the first day of school.

Questions? Email Sarah Reginaldo at president@javargaspta.org.

This is the communication network for Vargas families. It will be used by room parents for class-specific announcements like parties, field trip chaperones, and classroom help; by school program leaders for announcements and volunteer opportunities; and it will serve as the school directory.

Please sign up on konstella.com and click on “Find Your School” in the top right.

Questions? Email Nayema DiFazio at communications@javargaspta.org.

Caring comes in all forms, and everyone is different. But we have volunteer opportunities to suit different time availabilities, temperaments, and skills. Vargas needs you and whatever you can give, whether it’s preparing class materials at home, an hour of help in a class, or leading a school event!

Please note that all volunteers must sign a waiver (available at the office) and provide

proof of TB testing Questions? Email Andrea Griffiths at volunteers@javargaspta.org
