Hearing and Vision

Each fall, MVWSD conducts hearing and vision screenings of all students in kindergarten, second-, fifth- and eighth-grade, as California State Law mandates.  These screenings will take place at Vargas Elementary on Wednesday, September 18th.

Parents will be notified in writing if children fail a screening. Parents who do not want their child screened for either vision and/or hearing should send a letter to their child's school each school year indicating that their child is to be excluded, and vision and/or hearing results will need to be provided from their physician.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing please contact your school nurse. Questions about the screenings should be directed to the Health Services office at 650-526-3500.

Lost and Found Items

Please stop by the front office to check our Lost and Found box. Our box is starting to overflow, any items not claimed by Friday, September 27th will be donated.

CSMA Art Club 1st to 3rd Grade

FALL SEMESTER after-school art club at Vargas Elementary School.

Join us for a 12-week fall art club session where we will explore the theme: The Art of Food.

Students will paint, draw and build with support and instruction from CSMA faculty. Teachers develop a new curriculum with each new session. This session we will explore the many ways that food is connected to art. We will look at artists that use food as a medium or theme in their artwork and create projects based on these.

MVEF News

As our schools wrap up their Back to School Nights, the Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF) hopes parents learned more about what school foundations add to their child's education.  Neighboring cities, like Palo Alto and Los Altos, also rely on educational foundations to bring essential programs to their school districts. Here in Mountain View, that includes hands-on science, field trips, standards-based art and music lessons from Community School of Music and Arts, middle school athletics and more. A key to our district’s success is a vibrant PTA, a strong educational foundation and engaged parents like you!  The colorful brochure you received at back to school night doubles as a donation envelope- making donating easy! Or you can donate online at mvef.org. Over 70% of our funding comes from parents like you!

MV Parent U: Like movie and discussion

Mountain View Parent University presents a discussion and showing of “Like,” a documentary that explores the impact of social media on our lives and the effects of technology on the brain. Social media is a tool and social platforms are a place to connect, share, and care… but is that what's really happening? How can parents and students gain the skills to self-regulate?

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 6:30-8 PM at Crittenden Middle School Auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m.

After the film, there will be a discussion facilitated by Common Sense Media and MVWSD staff. Spanish translation will be available during the discussion panel, and the film will have Spanish subtitles. Child care will be provided. To RSVP prior to the event, and to view live streaming on the internet during the event: mvwsd.org/parentu.
