Principal’s Message: Outstanding First Day
We had an excellent first day of school. It was such a wonderful feeling to see all of our hard work come together. Thank you to the teachers who worked after hours to prepare the classroom. Also, thank you to the volunteers and district office staff who came out to help our teachers set-up. What a way to start the year! Monday Morning Assembly and The Vargas Way
On Monday Mornings, we will have our weekly assemblies to celebrate the Vargas Way. Wear your Vargas gear and help us recognize students have earned a golden ticket for demonstrating the Vargas way. Please click here to check out our school-wide behavior expectations.
Back to School Night
Families, you are cordially invited to our annual Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 28, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. BTSN is an important opportunity for families to learn about their children’s classrooms, grade level programming, and general expectations. At 6:00, I will be welcoming and addressing all families and introducing our PTA leadership, MVEF Leadership, our staff, and our teachers. We’ll be splitting up the remainder of the evening into two halves so that families with multiple children can visit more than one classroom that night. See you on August 28!
Noon Duty Supervisor
Golden Owls, We are in need of some wonderful individuals to help with Noon Duty supervision. If you are interested please Apply Here.
Absence and Tardy Policy
During the school year, should your child be absent for any reason, please call Ms. Tellez at 650-903-6952 x3203. Excused absences are limited to illness, doctor/dentist appointments, and bereavement. All other absences will be considered unexcused. We strongly suggest that you travel out of town with children during school breaks only. Once a child accrues three unexcused absences or unexcused tardies over thirty minutes, families should expect a truancy letter. Once a student accrues five unexcused tardies, parents will be contacted by a district liaison for an attendance meeting.
Visitor and Delivery Procedures
- All visitors/volunteers must sign in at the Office and put on a visitor’s sticker before continuing to other parts of campus. Exception: caregivers waiting to pick up within 10 minutes of the end of the school day.
- If dropping off items for students during the day, please bring them to the office and we will deliver the items or call the students to pick them up.
- Visitors/volunteers who have signed in may use the adult restrooms in the front office. Adults may not use student restrooms unless escorting their child.
Medication Forms
If your child requires medication to be kept at school, please pick up medication release forms from the office or here on the website (in English and in Spanish) and return ASAP (we cannot administer any medication without the form). Please note that all medication, even over the counter ones, need a medication form signed by your doctor.
Pets on Campus
In order to keep all students safe we ask that you do not bring pets on campus before 6:00PM. We have aftercare programs s until 6:00PM. Thank you for keeping all of our Vargas students safe.

Welcome back from the Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF)!
MVEF is a community supported non-profit that raises funds to provide a competitive, well-rounded education for every child in the district. Thanks to tax-deductible donations from parents like you, MVEF funds important programs including weekly art and music classes at every elementary school, hands-on science field trips for every 4th, 5th and 6th grader, garden-based lessons led by Living Classroom, middle school athletics, science labs, instrument repair and purchase and more! We need your help to meet our goal to raise $800,000. Learn more at your school’s back to school night or donate today at mvef.org.
MVEF cannot wait to welcome you back at our District’s back to school nights. Look for our brochures at your child’s elementary schools and take a moment to learn how MVEF funds the art and music in your child’s classroom and read about the amazing field trips your 4th and 5th grader will experience. MVEF also funds science labs and instruments at the elementary schools. At Graham and Crittenden’s back to school night, you can find our brochure in your child’s first period class. Learn how we fund afterschool sports at our middle schools, including transportation, coaches and referees. We also support science labs, electives, musical instruments, and fund an environmental science field trip for every 6th grader. MVEF needs to raise $800,00 this school year. We cannot do it without your donations. Make your tax-deductible donation today at mvef.org/donate
