Principal’s Message:

Hello Golden Owls,

Next week we will have open house from 6:00-7:00 PM. This is an exciting time to join your child in touring their own classroom, and is a great opportunity for students to share what they have been learning in class. We look forward to making this a fun family night complete with CSMA art show in the MUR. This night is truly a family favorite you won’t want to miss!

Morning drop-off and Afternoon Pick-up

As we are nearing the end of the school year, I wanted to send out some gentle reminders so that we have a better drop-off and pick-up.  Be safe and respectful:

  • As you are turning into the school, please remember that there is only one turning lane. I have noticed several cars turning from the far left lane, and creating an unsafe environment.

  • If driving to campus, only use the drop-off/pickup lane closest to the sidewalk. Do NOT let your child exit or enter your car on the second lane.

  • Parents are STRONGLY encouraged to use the drop-off lane instead of parking in the parking lot.

    • Parking interrupts the flow of traffic and creates a backlog of cars.

  • Pull all the way forward and have your child exit quickly.

    •  Please have all materials packed and ready to go (water bottles, masks, lunch, library books)

    • Students should put their backpacks outside the car, if they need assistance, one of our staff members will assist them in putting on their backpacks. Please do not get out to assist your child.

  • If you need to get out of the vehicle to assist your child, pull all the way forward to the front of the line.

    • Stopping in the middle of the drop-off lane stops others from pulling more forward and makes it harder for cars to pass you as you open the driver’s car door.

  • Give bicyclists space. The law requires that you provide at least 3 feet of distance between the car and the bicyclist.

  • If walking to campus, only cross the street at the crosswalks.

In Partnership,

Principal Vern Taylor

Earth Hour  - March 25th

Every year, at 8:30pm local time on the last Saturday of March, supporters in over 190 countries and territories unite, taking action on and raising awareness of the issues facing our one home.

But Earth Hour is more than just an hour for Earth - it's a movement for our own futures, for the benefit of people and planet.

And it's not only a symbol of solidarity - it's a catalyst for change, harnessing the power of the crowd.

Here are some ways you can give your hour:

Pick up litter in your local area

Go for an outdoor walk

Spread awareness

Cook a sustainable meal

Read an article about the environment or ways to take action

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Calming Your Mind

When we feel stressed, our minds tend to jump to the past (I should have...) or to the future (What if...?). The problem is that we cannot change the past nor control the future. Focusing on the present can help us take control of our current situation and help us feel calmer and more relaxed.

Watch this video to learn more about how mindfulness can help you (or your child) be more present and relaxed.

To calm your (or your child’s) mind:

  1. Look around you, and name five things you see. Pick one object, and describe what it looks like, what color, what size, and what shape it is.

  2. Look for four things you can touch. Pick one of those items to touch, and describe how it feels.

  3. Name three things that you can hear. At first, it might seem that there is not much to hear, but listen carefully. Focus on one sound, and describe it.

  4. Look for two things you can smell. Focus on one smell, and describe it.

  5. Find one thing you can taste. Focus on the taste and describe it.

You can repeat these steps every time you feel stressed to come back to the present moment.
